RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - One of the best reasons to travel is getting to try all different kinds of foods from different backgrounds and cultures, but unfortunately, not everyone has the luxury to take a vacation overseas.

One local restaurant in the Richmond region is working to bring cultures from all over the world to right here at home, through every bite.

Global Fusion RVA opened its doors six days a week at 1825 West Main St. near VCU late last year.

"This idea was born a few years ago. A bunch of friends and family members got together and had conversations about what we could do differently," restaurant owner Michael Traber said. "Our mission is to bring people in, from all walks of life, under the auspice of having a great meal."

Traber says the Philly Cheesesteak, Southern Rueben, hot dogs, and a tomato cucumber salad are just a few options on the menu. He says most items on the menu come with a bit of a cultural twist.

"The idea came about of taking things that are normal in this country and adding flavors from Vietnam, Korea, Northern Africa, the Mediterranean," he said.

Traber helped open the new joint with his brother and Chef Mike back in the fall.

"We're all three passionate about this and want to see it succeed," Traber said.

He says you just walk on in and order from the counter.

"They can expect a loud and exciting greeting because Mike is kind of loud, but it's his passion," Traber said.

Global Fusion RVA is part of the meal program for VCU students. He also says they're a Christian-owned company and they host a men's ministry on Sundays.

"Any man that's looking for a relationship with the Lord can come in and join us. Absolutely," he said.

Traber adds they're working to expand by creating a food truck as well as opening additional locations in the future.

"If they want something different than everywhere else, they need to give it a try," Traber said.
